In this new staging of Jean Anouilh's 'Antigone', a group of Londoners take refuge from the Blitz in a cramped underground station and the 2,500-year-old story of Antigone surfaces while bombs fly overhead. This story, inspired by Greek mythology, tells of a headstrong girl who pushes against her uncle, the King, with tragic consequences. Performed by students from the Sussex University Drama Society, this reimagining of Antigone's ancient tragedy asks what it means to be part of a society, to be part of a family, and why it is that we never cease to tell stories in the face of conflict.
